This set of 4 handmade, black clay lunch plates are textured and painted with ivory toned underglaze and then another layer of clear glaze. The plates were fired in my kiln to a temperature of 2158 deg F. Each plate is unique shaped and is roughly 6.25 inches (15 cm) round.
Black clay is a unique substance that derives it dark colour from its high iron content. While these dishes are microwavable, unlike most ceramic dishes, they become very hot and hold their heat for a long time. This is a great feature if you want to keep something warm but remember to handle with care if you use these in a microwave oven.
